I need help with my model t generator. I have had the armature cleaned, and tested on a growler. It was reported to be in good condition. I have installed new field coils, bearings, brushes, and brush holder insulators. The generator motors nicely in both directions with the third brush lifted, and was set at the null point. The generator also motors nicely with the third brush set down and voltage applied on the bench. When I installed the generator on my t with a new solid state (Diode) cut out, it will not produce a voltage or current. What am I doing wrong?

Is the battery positive or negative side grounded to the frame. Did you buy a positive or negative ground diode cutout.
The battery side grounded and the polarity of the diode cutout must match. The Model T was negative ground and the Model A was positive ground.
If you have one of each it will act exactly as you described.
If you need help give me a call when I am in the shop seven days a week 11am to 4pm est and I will try to help.
