Thought I"d start a new thread

Ok guys, you haven't failed me yet.

My high RPM miss seems to be gone, and the fix was putting 5/16 rubber fuel line level on the back side of frame but as straight as i could get it (yet to be road proven). The previous line was modified to have brass compression fit fittings on a 1/4" line, but that made the interior of the line very small maybe 1/8". Along with the routing, i believe i was starving the carb.

I'm counting on you guys again and hopefully the last time before my perfect drive, if there is such a thing.

I need to diagnosis my magneto.

1. switch seems to be fine- but not sure how to test it.

2. did the 1156 backup light test. It did't light at all, and i got a 3.1 volts across the load.

3. i took the bottom engine pan off and only noticed maybe a little angle on the back main babbitt.

4. put a pry bar on the front of the crank. It didn't seem to move.

Finally I think I may of inadvertently put battery power to the mag this winter but i'm not 100% sure.

Counting on you guys. This is my 24 coupe that was bought new from my great great uncle. I've been plagued with minor problems for twenty years. I'm so determined to get it on the road properly this year and it seems reachable now.

thanking you guys in adavance.

Murray

You mention that you might have put power to the mag. Does that mean for an instant or for a while? If just for an instant, you might have to recharge the magnets. Not a big deal.

"Item 2. did the 1156 backup light test. It didn't light at all, and I got a 3.1 volts across the load".
The magneto for whatever reason is in very poor health and will not operate the coils it's current condition. You should be getting 7 volts at engine idle and 25 volts or more higher engine speeds.
Now the question becomes why. If you call me I can give you a few things in an effort to locate the trouble.
If you have accidentally gotten battery power connected to the magneto terminal on top of the hogshead you are a good candidate to try a "in car magneto recharge". I like the one shown in the MTFCA Electrical Manual. Which every procedure you do use DO NOT mix and match them.

hey guys,

I believe if i did put power to the mag it was only for a very short time, but I'm not sure. I did read about the in car re-charge proceedure. It was the one where you connect three 12 volt batteries together in series---put the positive on the mag terminal and quickly touch the ground 5 to 6 times and cautioned "not" to hold it on there for any length of time. oh I forgot, the compass has to read north on the top of the hogshead.

It sounds like doing the in-car is my next move right?

Appreciate it guys.

Murray

And thanks Ron, i"ll try not to bother you unless it's absolutely necessary.
