Hello, i have a 1920 ford model T depot hack. i have done alot of the restoration and it is running well. However there is alot of black "sut" or "grime" inside the engine under the spark plugs. i was wondering if there is perhaps some type of fuel treatment or such that can help clean inside my engine that is safe for the 1920 model t. thanks for the help!
Soot and crud is a pretty common thing in these engines, especially if they still have the cast iron pistons and rings. If you read the owners manuals you'll find that it tells you to remove the head periodically and scrape off what excess you may have. Running the gas/air mixture too rich contributes to the formation of carbon deposits but in these cars, it's a rare case where you can eliminate the problem altogether.
I have a '17 touring that I drive all the time and still has the original pistons in it. You don't want to grab the back side of the license plate. She makes enough soot to spread it around more than the cylinders. Runs like a top.
